Jupiter's Travellers - Application FAQ

Before submitting an application to become a Jupiter's Traveller, we recommend you read these frequently-asked questions and answers:

Will the Foundation help to finance my journey?
No. The Foundation doesn't fund travelling expenses. We offer advice, contacts and, where possible, practical help to Jupiter's Travellers who are setting out. For those on the road or returning, we offer assistance in transforming the raw material of adventure into something stunning for the rest of the world to appreciate.
What sort of information should I provide when describing my journey on the application form?
That's very much up to you, but the more information you can give the easier it will be for the Foundation to understand your ideas. The three really important aspects you should focus on are Exploration, Comprehension, and Communication. We're particularly interested in how you would like to communicate your observations and insights for the world to share.
Does Ted Simon personally review Jupiter's Traveller applications?
Yes. Every genuine application is considered by Ted Simon, the Foundation's management team, and the Committee of Advisors.
I plan to travel with my partner/friend/in a group rather than on my own. Can I still apply to become a Jupiter's Traveller?
Certainly. Our tendency is to favour those who travel alone, since this removes barriers to communication, but there are always notable exceptions. We're primarily interested in the ideas, intentions, and motivations behind the journey you wish to undertake, and how and why you want to share your observations and insights.
How does the Foundation support Jupiter's Travellers?
We offer advice, contacts and, where possible, practical help to Jupiter's Travellers who are setting out. For those on the road or returning, we offer assistance in transforming the raw material of adventure into something stunning for the rest of the world to appreciate.

Every Jupiter's Traveller benefits from mentoring from Ted Simon and/or experts from our Committee of Advisors, and are able to highlight their connection with the Foundation via the Jupiter's Traveller logo.

Jupiter's Travellers are also provided with exclusive access to an area of the Foundation website where they can publish material about their journey's observations and insights.
Does the Foundation only support people who travel by motorcycle?
Not at all. Naturally we have a soft-spot for motorcycle travel since that's how Ted Simon went twice around the world (and we believe travelling by motorcycle has many advantages), but your mode of transport (including travelling on foot) is not our main focus and won't affect your application. The most important factors we consider are the understanding you hope to gain (or have gained) and how you intend to communicate that for the world to share.
Does the Foundation support travellers who are not US citizens?
Yes. The objective of the Foundation is to promote world understanding and so we positively encourage applications from every nation.
English isn't my native tongue. Does the Foundation support non-English language projects?
Yes. Communication, along with Exploration and Comprehension, is at the heart of the Foundation's purpose. We positively encourage applications for non-English language projects.
My Jupiter's Traveller application was rejected by the Foundation. Can I re-apply?
Of course. We reject far more applications than we accept, but always look forward to receiving revised and improved ideas. When we reject an application we try to provide honest feedback about our decision and, whenever possible, constructive suggestions about how you might re-think your plans.
