Jupiter's Travels In Camera
Jupiter's Travels In Camera - the photographic record of Ted Simon's celebrated journey around the world - will be officially released tomorrow, September 5th.
Jupiter's Travels needs no introduction of course. Ted's words have been inspiring adventure travellers to explore the world and understand its mysteries for over 30 years. Now, with the publication of Jupiter's Travels In Camera a month and day before the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the journey, you can re-discover the iconic story through the medium of Ted's stunning photography.
In their introduction to the new book the publisher wrote, "Ted Simon's motorcycle journey around the world in the 1970s has become the stuff of legend... This beautifully designed book, with more than 300 images and new text by the author himself, shows us what he saw so long ago. Here are pictures from another age, looking as sharp and colourful as if taken yesterday - from the camel drivers of Cairo to the deserts of Sudan, the gauchos of Argentina to the truckies of Oz, the temples and gurus of India to the 'Hippy Trail' home. It was Ted Simon's perceptive eye that made Jupiter's Travels famous, and now we see the raw material behind his vision."
Commenting in his blog a few days ago, Ted said, "Please forgive a father’s enthusiasm. The book has been a twinkle in my eye for nearly forty years... Now at last, and just in time for the 40th anniversary of the journey itself, technology triumphs and the dream has become a reality."
Jupiter's Travels In Camera was designed by Foundation co-founder, Erdem Yucel, who has spent many months digitally restoring Ted's photographs from the original Kodachrome negatives. Most of the images have never been seen in public before.
The book is a 256-page 10"x10" hardback, published by Haynes, with a cover price is $49.95 or £30.00 and is already in stock with Amazon and other retailers. Signed copies will be available from Ted's Jupitalia website during October.
Special Limited EditionsHowever, as a unique way to mark the 40th anniversary and to help raise funds in support of the Foundation, Ted has very kindly offered to create a small quantity of special limited editions. They'll contain a personal dedication handwritten by Ted (and a signature of course) and we intend to offer them as a package that will include a signed poster-size print of one of the photos from the book and lifetime membership of the Foundation as a Jupiter's Companion. Details of the package will be finalised and announced in the next few weeks, but we expect the price to be $400 (around £255 or €300).
If you would like to provisionally reserve one of the limited editions, please enter your details below and we will contact you with further details as soon as they become available:
