From Strength To Strength
Six months have flown by since our first anniversary and it may have seemed that the Foundation has been a little quiet of late. Appearances can so often be misleading of course. In practice, much has been happening for the Jupiter's Travellers and for the Foundation as a whole.
Helen Lloyd, Dom Giles and Geoff Thomas have all completed manuscripts, and are now looking forward to seeing their books in print later this year, while Heather Ellis and Jacqui Furneaux are making solid progress with theirs. The production of Daniel Rintz's stunning documentary film, 2-Wheels 1-World 0-Money, is nearing completion following his successful crowd-funding campaign.
Sarah Outen's human-powered loop around the world is just about to re-launch from Japan as she makes her second bid to row solo across the Pacific. Henry Nottage rode from the UK to Nepal on the motorcycle he built himself, Sheelah Turner and Oyvind Helgerud made it to South Africa from Nordkapp, and Matt and Liz Fox are beside themselves with excitement as their round-the-world departure from London's Ace Cafe on 21st April draws near.
Sadly, after a long battle with cancer, Cathy Birchall passed away earlier this year. "Touching the World", by Cathy and Bernard Smith, has proved as successful as it is inspiring, receiving critical acclaim and leaving a lasting legacy that celebrates Cathy's life.
As the Foundation grows from strength to strength, Carla King has joined the management team to support our work with her publishing and social media expertise, not to mention her considerable travelling experience, and Alice Gugelev of the Muskoka Foundation and round-the-world motorcycle travellers Simon and Lisa Thomas have volunteered to be part of our outstanding Committee of Advisors.
A significant milestone was reached a few weeks ago when the Foundation finally received confirmation that it's been granted 501(c)(3) charitable status in the USA. This means that donations to the Foundation are tax-deductable for US citizens and the door is now open for us to pursue a much wider variety of fundraising activities.
Linked to that news, in the coming weeks we'll be launching Jupiter's Angels - a new way for businesses and members of the public to directly support the Foundation's mission and the projects undertaken by Jupiter's Travellers.
Looking ahead, Ted and Erdem will be at Overland Expo in May before Ted flies to England to join Iain at the Horizons Unlimited HUBB UK event. A number of Advisors and Jupiter's Travellers will be presenting at both events.
